What Is PESA/TESE?

PESA :- Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration is a procedure in which a needle is inserted into the epididymis, and the semen is extracted. Later, sperm is extracted from the semen to be used in the IVF process.

TESE :- Testicular Epididymal Sperm Extraction is a surgical procedure in which a small piece of testicular tissue is obtained from which sperm is extracted for the IVF process.

  • Vasectomy :- In cases where the male has had a vasectomy can opt for these procedures.
  • Failed vasectomy reversal :- There are times when vasectomy reversal does not work out. PESA/TESE can be a savior in such cases.
  • An absence of the vas deferens :- Vas deferens carry sperm from the testicle to the urethra; in some scenarios, these are absent in men. These procedures are ideal for cases like this.
  • Blockages anywhere along the seminal tract :- Blockages in the seminal tract can restrict can cause low sperm production. In such cases, these procedures can help.
  • Problems arising from injury or infection :- Some injuries or infections can cause the absence of sperms in the semen. These procedures can help to extract semen directly.

Risks & Side Effects
